    July Elections and General Meeting

In July we will have open elections for three Executive Committee positions.  The terms for VMR Road Captain and Vice President will be up for a vote.  Seymour Battle (VMR Road Captain) and John Perry (Vice President) both plan to relinquish their positions and allow other members to get involved.  New this year, we are expanding the elected positions to include two Road Captain positions.  This is to accommodate the growth of the club.  The executive positions of President, Vice President, VMR Road Captain and Secretary are only open to Valero employees.  The new Associate Road Captain position can be held by any current member.

I want to encourage anyone who is interested in any of these open positions to consider running.  Please don’t feel like the duties will be dumped on your lap.  The previous office holders always offer assistance as well as other members of the Executive Committee.

If you are interested in running for one or both of the open positions, please submit your name to club Secretary Jean Williamson by June 19th to have your name placed on the ballot.  A Ballot and updated Valero Motorcycle Riders Bylaws will be posted on the website by June 26th for your consideration.

On July 9th a general meeting will be held in the Cafeteria’s private dining area to ratify the Bylaws and hold elections.  If you are not able to make this meeting please contact Jean to have your vote submitted by Proxy.

When I ran for  Vice President, I was told by the outgoing VP that this officer position really didn't do anything.

I feel that I have fearlessly lived up to the requirements of this office.  It's time for someone new to step in and do nothing better than I have.  If you feel you meet the demands of this office and can serve the VMR in this capacity, I urge you to contact Jean and throw your name in the hat.

I just realized there may only be one man who can do nothing better than John; ME. Jean, can we consider this my official campaign announcement?  I'm not going to do ANYTHING to get elected.

I know there are some Road Captains lurking in the shadows out there!   Come on!  I am personally looking forward to not knowing (or caring) where or when the next gas stop, butt break or food break for the group will occur!  Wink

Seriously, if you are interested in one of the Road Captain postions I will be more than happy to assist with rides and events until you become comfortable with the role.  We can use the upcoming Blanco and Eureka rides as "training" events so don't feel like you have to assume full responsibity for the previously scheduled rides/events.

    Don't make me call names.....Geeked

What is the difference between a associates road captain and a road captain. I would put my hat in for the associate road captain but my schedule at work changes so much, I feel like I would be letting everyone down. As for doing nothing heck I'm good at that too. but I haven't been with the group long enough to know what's going on.

I think that you would fit the job just right. Nothing doing. Well, except for those isolated, 'high defcon', kind of decisions that come up once a quarter or so.

Something like " where do we meet for lunch?".

I agree with Mike.  Nothing is ever hard pressed with the group. We all have work and outside obligations so don't feel like you would be letting anyone down.

     Go for it!

Maybe the Road Captain position?  I believe that the Associate was geared more for the non-Valero employee members, but I could be wrong.  There is always a first time...Surprise

Re: July Elections and General Meeting

Does anyone know if I can get in the building on Thursday for the meeting?  Haven't been past the information desk since I retired 3 years ago.  Don't have a hall pass anymore.  Not for sure that I'll attend, was just wondering.  And I'm assuming that a pair of khakis' and a short sleeve sport shirt will be acceptable attire.  Someone please let me know if it's not.

Also, how will voting be handled for those individuals that aren't in attendance.  Am I a voting member?
