New Mexico Spring Ride - 2010

Tentative date for leaving San Antonio is April 23 with a duration of 5 days.  Put it on your calendar.

Looking at including the ride described in the link below as a day ride from Silver City NM, which is on the south side of the loop.  The author of the article rode the route starting from the noth end.

    Details to follow.

That sounds really cool.  Especailly the part about it being the curviest road in the U.S..  I've put it on my calendar.  We get back on my 22nd anniversary.

This sounds SO COOL!  I'll put it on my calendar, but I have to plan my Vacations a year in advance so my manager can deny them when the time comes.  :)

Put me and Power Trip (Catherine) down for a spot, and let's keep it cheep OK?

Slight change of plans folks.  After discussing the trip options in the Executive Committe Meeting today, it was decided that the trip would plan out better if it were a Friday through Wednesday trip, similar to our Eureka Spring adventure.  So the plan now is to Leave on Friday April 23 after work, and return on Wednesday April 28.  This arrangement will still only require 3 days off from work, and allow us three nights in Silver City instead of 2.

    The tentative itinerary is....

Day 1 - Ride to a reasonable stopping point, perhaps Ft Stockton.

Day 2 - Ride to Silver City NM

Day 3 - Devils Hwy loop (appx 330 miles)

Day 4 - Gila Cliff Dwelling loop (appx 150 miles)

Day 5 - Travel from Silver City travelling to either Artesia or Carlsbad NM.  Will include riding Hwy 152, River Road along the Rio Grande, White Sands National Monument, and Cloudcroft.

Day 6 - Grind it out to home.

I'd like to say two things.

     1. Can we go by Trinity Test Site?

    2. Johnny Cash was a musical genius.

    I agree with #2.

What is the Trinity Test site?

Next tour date for the Trinity Test site is early April.

     Trinity Site Tour
Where: Trinity Site, White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico

Saturday, April 3rd, 2010. Only open twice a year. in October and April. Historical area but only limited visits; strange.

Got it, thanks.  I've been to White Sands when I was in college.  They're probably still glowing.

I believe that the 23rd of Aril is also the Battle of Flowers parade date.  The offices have trditionally closed at noon...Food for thought.

Is your tought that the Battle of Flowers parade would be a conflict with leaving, or that it might provide an opportunity for being able to leave earlier?

I see it as a opportunity to leave earlier.  The time will have changed the and we get to leave earlier.  We could get a little farther than Ft. Stockton.
